Course description
On this eight-week course, experienced editor Liz Marvin will guide you through the different types of creative nonfiction – a form that ranges from memoir to writing on travel or food, journalism to personal essay – and demonstrate how best to connect with readers when telling your story. You will acquire the tools to develop and hone your writing by studying aspects of craft and technique – such as structure, pace, clarity and descriptive writing – through the reading and discussion of short extracts from a variety of authors. You will also receive feedback on an extract of your own work from your fellow group members and the course tutor, all in a warm, supportive and creative environment.
The course will include tips and advice on self-editing and getting unstuck, as well as a discussion on the publishing industry, potential routes to publication, and how to write a book proposal. Writing Creative Nonfiction is suitable for writers of all levels of experience, whether just starting out or at an advanced stage of a work in progress, though participants are advised to have an idea of the subject they wish to write about before beginning the course.
